    Our Mission
Fostering resilient landscapes through science, ecosystem restoration, and local leadership

We are an impact organization working in Costa Rica and across Latin America, where ecosystem loss and climate change urgently need locally driven solutions. We believe that positive change and sustainable practices are built under empowered local leadership, so we work to achieve lasting ecosystem restoration, strengthen environmental stewardship, and build the tools and knowledge for long-term climate change resilience. We advance our mission through three core strategies: on-the-ground restoration of degraded lands; cutting-edge, solutions-focused research; and capacity building that trains today's practitioners and tomorrow's environmental leaders.

    Who we are

TLC Program was founded by a small group of field biologists and climate scientists who wanted to put science into action on the ground.

Our experience spans Costa Rica and elsewhere in Latin America, Hawaii, the Galápagos, the high-elevation ecosystems and glaciers of the Andes, and even the boreal and arctic landscapes of Alaska. Together, we have developed innovative forest restoration techniques, worked on sustainable agroforestry and agriculture, done the experimental work behind climate models, and led high-elevation and far-north expeditions to study glacier loss and the impacts of climate change.

What ties our work together is a simple conviction: resilient landscapes grow from informed, sustainable management, led by the local communities who depend on them.
